‘The Suspenseful MR SCRATCH wraps Production’

Mr Scratch a horror/comedy written and directed by Ravensbourne Film student Angad Singh Follows the chilling story that follows jack an anxious student struggling socially and is very much introverted. But begins to hear a strange scratching sound noise starts that starts to haunt Jack which creates mass paranoia for our main protagonist. When I came across this project I was especially drawn in by the horror/comedy aspects of it as both combined make the perfect genre for me but may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But this Story has got me very excited to see where it goes and how it utilizes all the elements Angad has in store us in Mr Scratch.

As we started the interview I was intrigued by the premise of what Mr Scratch and the in bedded themes within the overall story, With my question asking this Angad has a great response talking through the characters backstory and what he’s made "Mr scratch is about a guy named Jack who's very much introverted but what we especially see our character struggling socially and what happens to him as a character is how MR scratch shows up, haunted by a scratching noise creating paranoia as we see the story though Jacks eyes" When writing the character of Jack, Angad felt it was important to make the character personal issues that can relate to some viewers but what he also went onto add was the characters importance to the horror/comedy aspects to Mr Scratch "what makes him interesting as a character and brings in the themes of comedy aspect of it is he approaches the norms of horror unconventionally so in the end this diffuses the horror leaving some room for the comedy"

The interview was progressing well and was gaining a more in depth look into how Angad thoughts on the project and what his initial intentions were for building the character that was uses the horror and comedy themes through the character of Jack and splitting the two in separate parts dividing it in the first half of the film and the second half, Angad talks through this in more detail “Dividing each theme into two especially in the run up to midpoint in the story its mostly horror but changes after into the comedy aspects that I've written into the story”. Our discussion during this part of the interview was very inciteful as seeing how themes are driven by jack the main protagonist but what was especially surprising was how the story has two parts that are being used as one being the comedy aspect and the horror aspect of Mr scratch.

It was really interesting to get a more in depth understanding of what Angad’s initial intentions were for Mr Scratch and how built the story from the ground up but one thing I wanted to was discuss was the budget situation for Mr Scratch and how he overcame challenges and restrictions he had when distributing the Budget around the project itself “lower budget was a huge restriction but how we circumnavigated around this challenge was in terms of location we had the university and other locations in hand” compromising with what you have when your handed certain limitations can be quite a challenge when it comes to making a short film but I guess the challenges ca be a positive and bring out the best in a film in the end.

Overall, this interview went well and to get another opinion on how it’s like to be a student filmmaker working under certain restraints and challenges but making the film out of pure passion for art is so important and what drives all filmmakers. I’m very much looking forward to viewing Mr Scratch and all the twists and turns that will unfold.
